The Human Rights Office (established in 2001) is an Independent Organisation specialising in Legal Research within the field of Human Rights Law.

Current research: The Rule of Law, Democracy and Human Rights After the Celebration of 800 Years Magna Carta.

There have been no new conferences because of the pandemic, but a conference will be planned in 2024.

10am: Opening
10.15am:Talk by Dr Ingrid van Dooren, LL.M., Director of Research of the Human Rights Office: “Introduction to Human Rights Law”
11.15am: Interval
11.30am: Workshops on practical human rights cases, covering a variety of human rights, among them the right to health and the right to a fair (legal) procedure. Real life examples from the UK will be discussed.
12.30pm: Plenary discussion
1pm: End of Programme

The talk by Dr Ingrid van Dooren is based on her book of the same title, a revised edition of which will be published shortly.

ART, WELLBEING AND HUMAN RIGHTS PROJECT 2017
An exhibition and other activities took place at the Sunlight Centre, Richmond Road, Gillingham, 14th October – 26th November 2017
Theme: showing that art is good for wellbeing and that everybody should have access to art regardless of their background or abilities. Taking part in cultural life is a human right and this includes art. Participating in art helps the realisation of the human right to health including mental health.
Programme of activities:
Saturday 14/10/17, 12-3pm: Opening of the Exhibition at the Sunlight Centre, presentation of the Research Report on Art, Wellbeing and Human Rights by Dr Ingrid van Dooren, creative workshops
Saturday 21/10/17, 12-3pm: Talk about the theme of the project/exhibition, viewing of exhibition, creative workshops
Saturday 4/11/17, 12-3pm: Talk about the Magna Carta 1217 and the Charter of the Forest placed in the context of the project, appearance of Knights of Medway, viewing of exhibition, creative workshops
Sunday 19/11/17, 3pm: (classical) concert at St Luke’s Church Gillingham
